Chinese state-owned power producer China Huadian Corporation has launched the second phase of its Caipeng Solar-Storage Power Station in Shannan, Tibet, situated at an altitude of 5,228 meters, making it the world's highest-elevation solar installation. This station surpasses the first phase, which was built at 5,100 meters.
According to People.cn, the project will generate 155 million kWh of green electricity annually, equal to saving 46,800 tons of coal and cutting 129,400 tons of carbon dioxide annually. The first phase of the power station, operational since late 2023, has produced over 40 million kWh of electricity.
To ensure an uninterrupted power supply, an advanced energy storage system is also incorporated, capable of delivering 80,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity continuously for four hours during the nighttime.
The output has significantly mitigated seasonal power shortages in Shannan Prefecture in Xizang, showcasing its ability to address seasonal power shortages and boost regional development.
